Nothing in the postbox this week, but of course, Santa has been...........
I have now caught up with technology and my dear partner bought me a Kindle. My dear daughter, C, bought me a lovely lilac case for it. :)
This time last year I turned down a Kindle from my partner, saying I loved books too much and didn't think I would be interested in a Kindle. One year on and I have room for a Kindle as well as my books.
My first impressions........
- It is very light-weight.
- I love being able to read hands-free or with just one hand.
- The pages turn quite quickly and I am sure this is saving me time, as I no longer have to reposition my hands after turning a page.
- It was fairly easy to set up, after a false start. I had kindle for pc and my books were in that account. I had to remove the books from that acc and move them to the actual kindle.
- still cannot believe that kindles are not back-lit.
- Kindle will be my preferred reading material when travelling.
- I will still want books in paperback, too
Are you new to Kindle? What are your first impressions?
My Kindle downloads
House of Silence - Linda Gillard
Songbird under a German Moon -Trica Goyer
Are we nearly there yet? - Ben Hatch
French lessons - Ellen Sussman
Satchfield Hall - Pauline Barclay
Sophie's Turn - Nicky Wells
Build a Man - Talli Rolland (review copy)
Reaching for the Stars - Janice Horton (review copy)
What does your reading week look like?

I got my Kindle for Christmas last year, and I am surprised at how much I enjoy it. Of course I'll still want regular books, too; but I do believe I can read more quickly on it, and I love the ease of downloading books.
ReplyDeleteToo easy, in fact! lol
Thanks for sharing your thoughts...and for visiting my blog.
I love your Kindle cover! Very pretty....
Enjoy the gifts and lots of reading pleasure ahead for you.
ReplyDeleteI have a Kindle 2 and rarely use it. It's at the bottom of a stack of books and I think I just forget that I have books on there. Most people love theirs and I suspect you will too. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHi Laurel-Rain,
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree, my kindle will not replace books completely.
Mystica,
thank you. have a good week.

Paperbacks appeal to me more as I can flick to the notes, or turn over for the blurb in a moment, but not having to carry a paperback in my handbag will be a blessing for my shoulder :)

Great gift! I adore the case -- it matches your blog!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gift. My son's girlfriend gave me one a few months ago, so far, I have read 2 books on it, but like you, it will not replace "real" books. Have a great reading week.
ReplyDeleteMy mum has a Kindle and she adores it! I do have an e-reader but it's a Sony one and it's not near as convenient as a Kindle.
ReplyDeleteI love the Lilac case :)
Happy reading!
Enjoy your new e-reader! I have a Nook and love it. I hope you enjoy your Kindle!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good Christmas. I also got lots of new books and am now in a tizzy deciding which one to read first.
ReplyDeleteHi Joy,
ReplyDeleteThank u. Yes, Lilac is my colour :)
Hi Nise,
I will use my kindle for those times I cannot take a book and mix with paperbacks
Jules
I went for Kindle as it seemed reasonably priced for my first e-reader.
Yvonne,
I don't know anyone in the UK with a Nook.
Tracy,
Enjoy all your new books

Carol I love mine too and just received it this Christmas. I agree with many of your comments, I think I am reading faster on my Kindle, which is great! I think it is light and comfy to hold too, or to rest on table and not have to hold at all whilst reading. Some great books for 99p too.

I have had my Kindle DX since the 29th of March and useit daily to either read free downloads from Amazon or review books from authors. It will never replace my "real" books but has become something that makes travel reading light and easy.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading, and as one who also held out on getting into digital reading enjoy as you become addicted more and more just like I have!
I have a Kindle too and love it, but can't imagine being without paper books too. I love the cover your daughter bought you.
ReplyDeleteKindles don't necessarily mean less physical books... They often mean MORE books! :D
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it! :)
It took me a while to get used to my kindle but it makes it so much easier to read with a wild toddler running around!!
ReplyDeleteI love your cover, very pretty! I don't have a kindle but do download samples of books for my kindle app which will save me money in case I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteI am reading "Amanda Strong - Just one click" and have "Megan McCafferty - Sloppy Firsts" for my next read.
Lindsay,
ReplyDeleteI have been taking advantage of the 99p offers too :)

Good to see you. I am hoping that my kindle and real books can live happily side by side :)
Debs,
The cover is really 'me'. I love it :)
Nikki-Ann
It also means it is less visable how bad our book addiction is :)
Melissa,
I do think it will be an asset for being able to leave at a moment's notice to see to the youngest :)
Anon,
I will check those titles. I did have kindle on the pc but just could not get on with reading on the laptop.
