When Queen Victoria attends a seance, the spirit of her departed husband, Prince Albert, insists she spend Christmas at their Scottish home in Balmoral. Prime Minister Disraeli suspects that the Scottish nationalists plan to assassinate the Queen and sends the ever resourceful India Black and the handsome British spy, French, to the Scottish highlands. India is certain that someone at Balmoral is determined to make this Her Majesty's last Christmas.
India Black, Madam, is back!
In the 2nd adventure for India and French the, unlikely couple, are once again asked to help the government with a problem.
Queen Victoria, still in mourning for her beloved Albert has decided to spend Christmas at Balmoral, The Scottish Highlands, as she believes it is the wishes of her late husband. He spoke to her through a, less than trustworthy, medium.
This poses not only a headache for her staff having to move household to the unforgiving Scottish Highlands in winter, but also the government. A group of Nationalists have vowed to assassinate the Queen of England.
India and French go undercover and escort 'Vicky', as India refers to the Queen, to Balmoral to keep the Queen safe.
I have been a fan of India since her 1st adventure. She has such a wonderful personality. If you have not read the first book and are wondering how a Madam became an aide to the government, you can still enjoy this adventure as India does bring us up to speed on how this all came about.
I loved the way India describes the beautiful Highlands, even though she does not care for them herself, and would much rather be in London. She has a way of talking about those around her that would almost certainly see her locked up, if anyone in power were to hear her. She has such a sense of humour.
I have to admit I preferred this second adventure. I got to find out a little more about India. There is still more to her than she is letting on.
5 out of 5 for me!
